The ABCs of Binoculars

Tip! How well your binoculars will serve you in low light conditions is described as Twilight Performance.  Although many things, such as overall design and quality of glass impact this specification, magnification and objective lens diameter are the chief components.

Binoculars

Binoculars are actually two telescopes placed side by side
so a viewer can see through them with both eyes. Unlike
monoculars which is one small telescope and can only been
seen through using one eye. The advantages of using
binoculars over monoculars are:

1. Both eyes can see comfortably through both lenses
with having to squint one eye to see.

2. Binoculars provide three dimensional images that
have more depth. Two views are drawn together to make one
total picture and allow the viewer to see things at some
distances up close and personal.

Tip! * The greater the magnification, the narrower the field-of-view.  If field-of-view is important to you, don’t purchase the most powerful binoculars you can find.

3. Binoculars are just more comfortable to look through
and hold steady because both hands are usually used.

Binoculars come in the convenient hand-held sizes which
make them very easy to take with you wherever you go.
However, binoculars can also come in very large sizes but
those are usually used by more professional viewers and
need to be steadied by being placed on a tripod for support.

Most binoculars are used to view objects at very far
distances and have to be focused for the viewer to see
things clearly. Focus adjustments on each set of binoculars
are different, some binocular lenses can be focused
independently while others can be focused at the same time
by turning a little wheel in between the telescopes. Many
viewers using prescription glasses do not need them to see
through most telescopes and can see more comfortably by
taking off their glasses.

Tip! Now, let’s put this information in use in the real world. You may think that it’s best to just get the highest magnification that you can get for binoculars, but this is not true.

Numbers are used to describe the telescopic strength of the
binoculars. The first number gives the power of the
magnification and the second number tells the diameter of
the objective lens in millimeters which measures its light
gathering strength. For instance, a pair of binoculars that
reads 7×50 can magnify things seven times stronger than
they actually are with a 50mm objective lens.

Viewers can use a pair of binoculars for bird watching,
star gazing, observing far off animals, spotting ships at
sea, watching a concert, or enjoying a sports game from a
“nosebleed seat.” They can be used while hiking, camping,
boating and hunting. One fascinating use of binoculars is
looking at the night sky. They enable the user to spot far
more stars, comets, galaxies, and nebulae far better than
with the naked eye. For example, galactic clouds and star
clusters look dim when viewed by the naked eye, but with
binoculars they are much clearer. Unlike the inverted view
a telescope provides, binoculars show the world right-side
up, just as a person would see things normally.
Furthermore, binoculars with a wide field of view allow a
user to observe a wide area, making it easier to observe
star clusters, comets, and galactic clouds. Binoculars are
easy to operate and allow viewers to concentrate fully on
looking up into the sky.

Tip! Generally speaking, more expensive pairs of binoculars have more atention paid to fit and finish and will stand up to more vigorous use, but if you only plan to occasionally use your binoculars, then a less expensive pair will no doubt work fine. Also, remember that after the purchase you should be sure to protect your investment with a suitable binoculars case.

Bring The Distant Views In Close With High Quality Binoculars

Tip! * The amount of light available while using your binoculars will determine –more than any other consideration – which binoculars are best for you.  Low light uses such as hunting, birding and astronomy require larger objective lenses.

As a child one of my favorite pastimes was exploring the world through my binoculars. They went everywhere with me. I could spy on everything from trees, to birds to tiny insects passing by. I took them with me everywhere I went always looking for the next adventure. We lived on a big farm out in the middle of nowhere, so I had plenty to explore. My binoculars are more than a childhood memory, I still have them. I love to take them out and share them with my son in the hopes he will discover the same joy I remember feeling. It is like looking through to another world.

Tip! Most pocket binoculars have multi-coated lenses and high-refraction prisms. All light transmitting surfaces are covered with multi-coating to increase brightness.

Today there is so much more to look at. The world has been changing and technology with it. I now enjoy using my digital camera to capture some of those favorite moments in time. The best part of my digital camera is that it is also a binocular. It is called a Digital Camera Binocular. You cannot only look off into the distance spotting your favorite wildlife; you can also take a digital picture of it.

The next time you head out on that hunting trip you don’t want to forget the digital camera binoculars. Then you will have the shot of the 20 inch buck grazing 100 yards in the distance, and should you miss it you will have proof of the one that got away.

Tip! * While compact binoculars weigh as little as a pound, by using them you will undoubtedly sacrifice performance.  If performance is your main consideration, full sized binoculars are preferred.

Keeping an eye on your children as they play down the street will be a snap to do without interrupting them. You can find those stars in the solar system easily with the more powerful digital camera binoculars and the pictures will amaze you. There are a variety of birds and animals in your own backyard. A trip to the mountains would never be the same again. You can spot things that are so hard to see with the naked eye at a great distance you may have never noticed them before.

Tip! When night-vision binoculars first came on the market they were very expensive status symbols. They used to be every expensive.

There may be many uses for digital camera binoculars and many are recreational. However the next time you go camping or sightseeing in the wild you will be amazed at the beauty all around you. With a digital camera right there photographs may never be the same.

Digital Camera Binoculars vary in price and quality. Before heading to the store look online for the best deals. Then you will be prepared to get the best product for your money. A new experience is waiting around the next corner. You will catch it all with these special binocular/camera hybrid. I enjoy showing my children all the birds and animals just like I found as a child. Have a wonderful adventure with them and don’t forget to share!
